New Missionary Training – Phase II
Please pray as the HQ team helps prepare several outbound Cadence missionaries for their field assignments.
Who is here:
Jim & Martha Bowden – assigned to the Lighthouse, Yokosuka, Japan. They hope to be at the Lighthouse this summer.
Lanny Groves – assigned to Victory Villa, Rota, Spain. He, Stacy, & their children are planning to be at the Villa by June.
Dan & Becke Haas – Malachi Ministries, Germany. They hope to be released to the field this week and fly next week!
Dave Hutchings – Malachi Ministries, Okinawa, Japan. Dave wants be in Japan by April.
The training:
A large part of this week’s preparation will be financial training — how to use our financial software, how to reimburse expenses, etc. It’s not necessarily exciting, but solid accounting is crucial for the integrity and health of the mission. Think of all the strife and bondage that comes to our lives if our personal finances are out of contol and imagine the havoc our ministires would have to endure without proper training.
The rest of their time will be spent on some cultural preparation — military culture, military ministry during war time, and ministry in a postmodern world — and various other specifics like communication with a support team, personnel policies, insurance orientation, and team ministry. The missionaries will also have plenty of opportunities to explore the questions they have and visit with whichever departments and people they need.
We will also spend some time praying with and for everyone. These visits from our field missionaries are always highlights at HQ – they bring energy to all the departments and serve as great reminders of why we work the jobs we do.
